Very Naked Artist Milo Moire And Equally Naked Baby Visit A Museum. Naked
Swiss artist Milo Moire has a knack for inspiring headlines. A self-professed protege of Marina Abramovic, the Dusseldorf-based performance devotee has -- on more than one occasion -- stripped down for the sake of art. Once she "gave birth" to a painting in a spectacle timed for Art Cologne. Another time she attempted to casually visit Art Basel with nothing but black writing emblazoned on her skin.
Now she's roaming the halls of a German museum, nude, with a naked baby in tow. Why? Because the LWL Museum for Art and Culture is hosting an exhibition titled "Naked Life," and Moire wanted to be a part of it, in the best way she knows how: nakedness. You can see the recent act in its entirety in the video below.

So, what's left to say? There are only so many synonyms and euphemisms for "nude" and "performance artist." At this point in mainstream coverage, it's clear reporting on a Milo Moire intervention is an attempt to alert the masses that performance art is still weird. Or inaccesible. Or exhaustingly shocking. Or something.
But there a few takeaways worth pointing out -- you know, as long as we've hooked you with the word "naked." One, Moire is hardly the first woman to tackle pop culture's torrid love affair with the nude female body. Cue Yoko, Marina, Carolee, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge.
Second, it's one thing to take issue with the mere fact that Moire is walking naked amongst us. It's another to break down what it means to see another white, notably hairless, model-esque body type -- you know, like the ones Botticelli used to paint -- inserted into contemporary art. The field is awash with muses already (she refers to herself as muse to her partner, photographer P.H. Hergarten). When we think about the nude women we're used to seeing in art, is Moire's work even shocking at all?
Third, to her defense, Moire's frequent nudity might seem bombastic to some (and, let's be fair, it is), but she's pretty consistent in her reasoning. “Without a shell, the body develops its maximum ability to communicate, its primitive nature," she writes on her website. "The body is universal and free from distraction, not bound to dominating ideals, fashions or even time. The sight of nudity provokes a meeting with oneself and affects someone within themselves, or it repels and the thought changes into outraged resistance. I see the naked human body neutrally –- as a canvas and the possibility to get closer to oneself. The opportunity to make yourself vulnerable and feel strength.”
Whether your like her methods or not, she has plenty more quotes like this lurking online. Until the next Moire headline, this has been a drive-by explanation of nude performance art, courtesy of your friends at HuffPost Arts.
The video's caption reads in part: "In keeping with the approach of the artists exhibited, Milo Moiré brings everyday life to art. And yet, she goes one step further in removing herself from the abstract form of representation and shows her main motif of the naked life: A naked infant safe in the arms of a naked woman. This direct confrontation with live nude art challenges others to reflect on familiar forms of perception. How close may a form of representation in art approach real life? Milo Moiré’s performance leaves this question within the realm of the museum: 'How little abstraction can art tolerate?'”

Several weeks ago, Swiss performance artist Milo MoirГ© arrived at Art Basel in Switzerland completely naked, except for her shoes, a pair of glasses and the words “pants,” “bra” and “jacket” written on her body. The result: She wasn’t allowed into the event (though organizers say it was because her performance was “unauthorized,” not because she wasn’t wearing any clothes).

What seemed like a simple prank was actually her latest work of art, an attempt to lull people out of their daily routines. MoirГ©, 31, is no stranger to shocking her audience.В In a controversial performance in April, for instance, she plopped paint-filled eggs out of her vagina and onto a canvas. One of her goals: to show how her femininity inspires her work.
I spoke with with MoirГ© last week about art, nudity and shock value.

Why do you think you were turned away from Art Basel?
The rigid corset of numbers and lust for power makes art short of breath. The art market needs the peculiarity of art—namely to be playful and passionately authentic. Without this quality, even the prestigious Art Basel only sells illusions.
What was the point of your most recent performance?
The performance, called “The Script System,” is inspired by the “scripts” theory of cognitive psychology. Each of us knows these scripts that we use every day. In the morning, on the way to work, we act almost automatically, sometimes without awareness of our environment. I wanted to break through this stereotypical everyday blindness.
The Guardian called your previous performance “absurd, gratuitous, trite and desperate?” Was the critic just being a jerk?
Critics have written such reviews about many important artists before me. I, myself, would not write a yard-long article if the art were inconsequential.

Milo Moiré’s tryst with the creation.
The conceptual artist drew inspiration from the paradisal gracefulness of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean for her latest work “The Blue Mauritius”. Milo Moiré collaged an insular ideal in tones of blue and green. Sighting the turbulent sea at the foot of the cliff in the wild south of Mauritius she gave birth to a portrait of an intimate contact with the absolutely sublime, the nature. The artist shows a primitiveness that calls not for saints and sinners, an egregious pure look at the creation of nature.
Milo Moiré’s performance is not only a tribute to the integrity but also an embodiment of intimacy and the “aesthetics of the unrepresentable.” The artist describes it as follows: “The core is, to take a closer look and to recognize the purity, it is like the pure white appearing light of the color spectrum which combines all the wavelengths in itself.”

Milo Moiré’s Rendezvous mit der Schöpfung.
Die Konzeptkünstlerin liess sich durch die paradiesische Anmut der Insel Mauritius im indischen Ozean zu ihrem neuesten Werk „The Blue Mauritius“ inspirieren. Milo Moiré collagierte ein insulares Ideal aus Blau- und Grüntönen. Am Fusse einer Küstenklippe im wilden Süden von Mauritius gebar sie beim Anblick eines aufgewühlten Meeres ein Bildnis einer intimen Berührung mit dem absolut Erhabenen, der Natur. Die Künstlerin zeigt eine Ursprünglichkeit, die nicht nach Heiligen und Sündern verlangt, einen unerhört unbefangenen Blick auf die Schöpfung der Natur.
Die Performance ist nicht nur eine Huldigung an die Unversehrtheit, sondern auch eine Verkörperlichung von Intimität und der „Ästhetik des Undarstellbaren“. Die Künstlerin beschreibt das so: “Der Kern ist, genauer hinzuschauen und das Reine darin zu erkennen. Beide haben sich zum ersten Mal bei der Arbeit getroffen, als Milo während ihres Studiums modelte.
Palm zu BILD: „Unser Kennenlernen war ein Klassiker. Ein großes Mode-Shooting-Casting. Wir haben gemerkt, dass wir uns viel zu erzählen hatten. “ Aus Sympathie wird Liebe, eine Fernbeziehung Bern–Düsseldorf beginnt. Palm: „Natürlich sind die Reaktionen auf ihre einmalige Art von Kunst im Freundeskreis etwas unterschiedlich. Viele sind neugierig, sie akzeptieren die Arbeit.“
