What is the Russell Hobbs RHFM2363B?
The Russell Hobbs RHFM2363B is fairly affordable microwave that borrows looks and some features from high-end models. So it has a flatbed design rather than a turntable, which means it can be used to cook and reheat large dishes. Its mirror-finish door looks great but is a fingerprint magnet.
It’s a good buy if looks matter to you but you don’t want the expense of a premium model and don’t need fancy features. If looks aren’t your priority though, you can get more for your money elsewhere.

Russell Hobbs RHFM2363B – Design and Features
The Russell Hobbs is a good-looking microwave that borrows styling and some features from higher-end models. So while it doesn’t have a full-width door, the door is all glass, with a mirror finish and display that shines through it. The exterior’s top and sides are black.
It’s dark and would look great in a modern kitchen, but be warned that the mirrored glass is a fingerprint magnet – you’ll need to either stop (everyone in he family from) touching it or be prepared to give it a regular wipe. The rest of the exterior is black and there are touch controls to the right of the door.
Flatbed technology, again borrowed from pricier models, means they have done away with the turntable, instead relying on other technologies to ensure even cooking. This means it’s possible to fit much larger dishes in the microwave, for example to reheat meals in rectangular oven dishes that would have been impossible on a turntable.
One of the technologies it relies on for even cooking is a “diamond cavity” structure. This basically means that the walls aren’t simple flat surfaces but textured, so microwaves are reflected in a more varied way – the theory is that it cooks food not just more evenly but faster as a result, saving time and money.
More basic features include a clock and 95-minute countdown timer.
Russell Hobbs RHFM2363B – What’s it like to use?
The Russell Hobbs’ door design is clever. When it’s open you have an easy-to-read list of its eight programs. When closed, this is covered up and you can just see a small number of discreet touch-sensitive buttons: to select cooking mode, power and time.
We found the controls weren’t very responsive: you have to give them a good, firm push and sometimes find yourself pressing them repeatedly, unsure whether it’s being registered.
You can cook or defrost by weight or time. Alternatively it has eight programs: pizza, meat, vegetable, pasta, potato, fish, beverage, popcorn. Each of these has just one or two suggested weights, so it’s a blunt instrument. For example, we cooked a huge (750g) jacket potato but the potato program only offers three options: 200, 400 or 600g. So we put it on for the latter, a program time of 13:30 minutes.

Despite turning it over halfway through the cooking time, it was cooked unevenly: cooked more underneath than on top, although to give the Russell Hobbs its due the cooking was very even side-to-side. A further 3 minutes at full power and it was cooked through, a competent microwave jacket spud: quick and edible but not a patch on the crispy jacket of spuds cooking in an oven or combi.
We also tested the defrost feature on a pitta bread and found it worked well: it came out warm but not cooked, and only a bit soggy on the underside.
The flatbed surface is markedly easier to clean than a turntable. Nothing to take out and no nooks and crannies, you can clean off all but the most cooked-in stains with a quick wipe. After cooking or defrosting it’s hot inside, especially the base, but not too wet. As mentioned about though, the mirrored glass door collects fingerprints so be prepared to wipe it clean regularly.
Should I buy the Russell Hobbs RHFM2363B?
If looks matter but you only need a straightforward microwave then maybe. This is a competent, fairly small microwave with no fancy features apart from its flatbed design. What stands out is its modern design, which makes it look like more like a premium appliance.
If you want a real premium appliance with a larger capacity, look at the Sage the Quick Touch. If you’re on a budget then consider the Swan Vintage SM22030.

What is the Russell Hobbs Purifry?
The Russell Hobbs Purifry cooks healthy chips and other foods using hot air as an alternative to deep fat frying. It is effectively a small fan oven on your worktop.
Its chips taste a bit better than those from rotary health cookers, but not good enough to justify the expense and worktop space.
Russell Hobbs Purifry – Design and Features
The Purifry has a suspiciously similar shape and features list to the Philips Viva Airfryer HD9220. Perhaps one was, ahem, inspired by the other. Like the Philips, it’s compact and takes up surprisingly little worktop space because it’s tall and thin.
Controls are near-identical to the Philips: a dial to set temperature (80-200°C) and a timer knob that controls cooking. The top section of the Purifry is a heating element and fan, while the bottom section is drawer that pulls out to reveal the cooking basket. But while the Philips has a mesh basket, the Russell Hobbs basket is more solid, non-stick with vents in the side and base to let the hot air through.
The bottom of the drawer is flat rather than aerodynamically sculpted like the Philips. Again, there’s no window for keeping an eye on cooking progress. On the plus side, the Russell Hobbs comes with a handy divider so you can split the basket in two, to cook two different foods without them bumping into each other.
But what to cook? The Russell Hobbs comes with a pamphlet of an instruction manual; it contains a handful of recipes and doesn’t even tell you what quantity of chips to cook.
Russell Hobbs describes the Purifry as having a 2-litre capacity but perhaps a better measure of it is that we weighed out 800g of fresh chips (the same as the Philips capacity) and found that these filled the Russell Hobbs up to the “max” line halfway up the basket.
Russell Hobbs Purifry – What’s it like to use?
We used the Purifry to cook 800g of chips, at 200°C, in 20 minutes. Its fan wasn’t too noisy but we found design details annoying – the way the cooking basket clips in and out of the drawer is really fiddly, with a clear plastic cover that you have to slide to get to the button.
The resulting chips were cooked well inside but too chewy, not crisp enough on the outside. They were arguably better than oven chips and slightly better than chips from a rotary health fryer, but not a patch on the Philips.
Alongside the test, as an experiment, we cooked fresh chips made from the same potatoes in the oven with a spoonful of oil, stirring them just once halfway through the cooking time, and got better-tasting results than from the Russell Hobbs.

Wir haben uns schon lange nach einem Eierkocher umgesehen und wollten uns zunächst ein Billiggerät holen, von dem uns jedoch zum Glück abgeraten wurde. Wir haben uns daher für dieses hochwertige Gerät von Russel Hobbs entschieden und wir bereuen den Kauf nicht! Dieser Eierkocher ist super leicht zu bedienen, kocht die Eier perfekt - egal ob man weich, mittel oder hart möchte, es gelingt immer. Auch die Möglichkeit Eier zu poschieren ist ganz nett und funktioniert genauso gut wie das Eier kochen. Das Gerät ist bei uns jeden Morgen im Einsatz und zaubert super tolle Frühstückseier. Perfekt.

Ein einfach zu handhabendes Gerät für bis zu 7 Eier. Den Härtegrad entscheidet Ihr über den mitgelieferten Messbecher. Je nach Härte Wasser befüllen - Wasser verdampft - Eier sind fertig. Der Messbecher verfügt über einen Eierpickser, was für sich spricht, damit die Eier nicht platzen. Wer mag, kann sich auch bis zu 3 pochierte Eier zubereiten. Dazu dienen die 3 mitgelieferten Schälchen. 1 Ei je Schälchen aufschlagen und Wasser in den Behälter. Schälchen oben drauf und das gleiche Prinzip. Wasser verdampft - pochierte Eier sind fertig! Unser Eierverbrauch ist seit Anschaffung des Gerätes gestiegen!

Schön in Form und Ausstattung. Auch große Eier passen rein, was bei meinem alten Kocher nicht so der Fall war. Gut finde ich auch, dass die Haube durchsichtig ist. Man sollte nur nach jedem Kochen sehen, dass die Kalkablagerungen gleich weg gemacht werden, sonst bildet sich eine feste Schicht. Bemängeln muss ich nur das etwas kurze Anschlusskabel.
